2009 WorldSkills Competition
The 2009 WorldSkills Competition will be hosted by the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede Park September 1 - 8, 2009. Youth from around the world compete in the skills of their various trades, and test themselves against demanding international standards.

The competition will last two weeks, bringing together 1000 competitors, 3000 volunteers, 150,000 students and spectators. There will be 400 tonnes of tools and 4 million tonnes of equipment used. The Opening and Closing Ceremonies are expected to draw 10,000 people each. 41 countries are expected to enter the 40 different skills categories in the competition, ranging from welding to cooking, auto body repair to landscape gardening, plumbing to web design. ACCOMMODATION All international competitors will be housed in a global village. This modern apartment-like facility boasts individual rooms, high speed Internet, and access to world-class recreation facilities. Cultural activities will be held nightly creating a positive atmosphere for competitors to form new friendships. Hotel AccommodationAll other participants will stay in Calgary’s downtown core, in some of the city’s best hotels. Hundreds of hotel rooms have already been reserved for WorldSkills participants. The Ramada Hotel Downtown Calgary offers 201 guestrooms on six floors. Some rooms have a step-out balcony with a city or alley view. Pets are allowed. Microwaves, refrigerators, and playpens are available on request. Wireless Internet access is complimentary. Best Western Suites Calgary Downtown This hotel features on-site fitness facilities and a steam room. A complimentary Continental breakfast is provided daily. The business center offers office equipment and two computers with high-speed Internet access. Calgary Marriott The hotel has an indoor pool, spa tub, and sauna, and a 24-hour fitness room faces the sundeck. Dining and refreshment options include Traders Grill—featuring buffet breakfasts—a lounge, and a Starbucks. The 24-hour business center provides high-speed Internet access. This hotel is entirely smoke-free. The 2007 WorldSkills Competition will be held in Shizuoka Japan. The 2005 Competition was held in Helsinki, Finland.
