The men’s and women’s world championships are conducted at different venues in the world. When the decision to separate the two championships was announced by the World Curling Federation almost three years ago, the Canadian Curling Association agreed at that time to alternately stage a men’s and women’s world event in Canada each year. Canada has won 29 men’s world titles since the championship began in 1959. Edmonton’s Randy Ferbey and his team of Dave Nedohin, Scott Pfeifer and Marcel Rocque have won the titles in 2002, 2003, and 2005. Ford Motor Company of Canada is the Title Sponsor of the event. This is the 13th year of their involvement. Edmonton will go after achieving their goal of 200,000 in attendance. The theme for the event is “Rock Your World”, which is exactly what Edmonton is planning to do. A World Curling Championship has never been in Alberta's Capital City before!
