International relocation, or moving from your present country to Canada is an exciting event. Except for the extra paperwork involved, the actual process of relocating your belongings will be the same as any other long distance relocation. It's success lies very much in the planning.

AS SOON AS POSSIBLE BEFORE THE MOVE
 
Make sure all your paperwork is in order.
Decide what you are going to take with you.
Decide what you are going to sell, and what you are going to give away, or put in storage.

Find out what the customs regulations are on the importation of the items you are planning to take along: Automobiles, pets, farm equipment, liquor, firearms,heirlooms.
 
If you are planning to bring your pet along, make sure you comply with the regulations and see the veterinarian in time for any treatment for your pet.

Make Travel Arrangements for yourself. Your goods will qualify for duty and tax-free importation as settler's effects, if you have owned, and used them before your arrival in Canada. You will need the sales receipts and registration documents for these items to help prove they meet these requirements.

Arrange for Insurance of your belongings.
 
CLOSER TO MOVING DATE
 
Obtain copies of your medical and dental records, prescription drugs description (generic name, strenght of components, not brand name), eyeglass prescription.

Make sure your friends, family and associates, including the Freight Forwarder or moving company have the address and/or phone numberwhere you can be reached in Canada.
 
Arrange for enough money to meet your needs untill banking services are arranged in Canada.
 
Make sure all the documents you need to take with you are on hand. Have photocipies of them at different places.

Have the original documents with you for carry-on.
Passports and VISA, and all your essential documents.
Travel tickets,
Credit Cards
Duplicate keys for cars, luggage and trunks.
Documents relating to your personal belongings, content, value, date of arrival and Relocation Company contact information.
 
UPON ARRIVAL
 

Notify the moving company once you arrived in Canada so that arrangements can be made for pickup or delivery of your goods.
