Oshawa is a city on Lake Ontario located approximately 60 km east of downtown Toronto in Ontario, Canada. The name originates from the Seneca native term for "crossing of a stream". Oshawa has been increasingly subsumed into the Greater Toronto Area by urban sprawl. As a result, the city is now one of the fastest growing cities in Canada.
