The Province of Ontario

Ontario is Canada's 2nd largest province and one in three Canadians calls Ontario home. It covers more than a million sq km and has more than 12 million people. Capital City of Ontario is Toronto.

The Capital City of Canada, Ottawa, is also located in Ontario.

80% of the population lives in urban areas with most of them, 5 million, in the area know as the
Golden Horseshoe.

Ontario has 250,000 lakes, 100,000 kilometers of rivers and 46,000 km of snow mobile trails.

The province's many rivers and lakes, particularly the Great Lakes, made for natural transportation routes. This resulted in a natural resource industry: fur, timber and minerals, as well as agriculture.

Today, southern Ontario, because it is so close U.S. market, is heavily industrialized.  At present the service industry is employing more people than the manufacturing industry.

Fast growing industries are business services, finance, tourism and culture.

Ontario has many communities, from Major Metropolitan Cities like Toronto, to smaller agricultural towns like Woodstock.
