Old World Charm, New World Style
Joie de Vivre

Do You Need More Cash?

A world-renowned multicultural metropolis, Montreal has a modern style all its own.

montebello French is the official language of Québec, most people speak English as well, especially in the city. Montrealers really appreciate your efforts to greet them in French. Just say, Bonjour !

Montréal is the second largest French-speaking city in the world, after Paris. A lot of people not only speak English and French, but 20% of the population speaks a third language as well.

BUSINESS
The city has 1,800,000 people of which 26% are immigrants. Language spoken at home is 57% French and 25% English. 26% of the people consider themselves Canadian, 24 % are French and 9 % are Italian.

Other large ethnic groups are Jewish, Haitian and Chinese. Visible minorities represent 19 % of the population.

30% of the work force has a University education, 30% of people between the ages of 15 and 24 do not attend school.

You get around Montreal by Public Transport. The city's underground métro system is one of the safest in the world. It is fast and it links all of downtown and major tourist destinations. It also connects to the bus and train service. Make sure you get a "transfer ticket" when going from subway to bus or train.

EDUCATION
Montréal has two French-language Universities, the Université de Montréale and the Université du Québec à Montréal, and two English-language Universities, McGill University and Concordia University.

ENTERTAINMENT

Montreal is truly world class as far as entertainment and gourmet food is concerned. Eating out in Montreal is nothing short of a culinary adventure. French cuisine is the norm. I had my first taste of French Onion Soup right here in Montreal. I could not imagine why anyone would want to make soup with onions. The waiter told me I should try it. I did, and I have been addicted ever since.

There are more than 5,000 restaurants currently on record, and they reflect the cuisine of the more than 80 countries represented. While good bottles of wine are easily found in stores, bring-your-own-wine establishments near Prince Arthur Street and Square Saint-Louis are especially popular.

During the High Lights Festival in February , spectacular food events are staged and feature local as well as international chefs.

Montréal is a film friendly city and a versatile multicultural metropolis that has become one of the major audiovisual production centers in the world. Architecture in the city spans several centuries and historical styles. Montréal has everything needed to rival its closest competitors either in Canada, the United States or Europe.

One of the most sought after hotels for celebrities is Hotel Nelligan in Old Montreal. Actor Edward Norton considers staying at the Nelligan as being in Paris and San Francisco and New York all at the same time. Nelligan is owned by the same people as Le Place d'Armes Hotel & Suites and l'Auberge du Vieux Port.
