Manitoba has the most diversified economy of all provinces in Canada, and it's tourism industry is just as diversified. It has 4 distinct seasons. Winnipeg, the capital city has 340 more hours of sunshine, than Toronto or Montreal.

The hunter-gatherer ancestors of the area's Aboriginal peoples came to the area some 10,000 years ago. In the early 1600 the first Europeans settled in the region. In 1870 the area became Canada’s fifth province .

The province is more than twice the size of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland combined. It is Canada's sixth largest province by land area. The landscape is dominated by boreal forest and water, Lake Winnipeg, Lake Manitoba and thousands of smaller lakes and rivers. The terrain ranges from prairie, mixed forest and grassland to rugged Canadian Shield forests, lakes and rivers, and Arctic tundra.

Multiculturalism
The province is home to people with French, Ukrainian and Mennonite heritage. the largest population of Icelandic descent outside of Iceland, the largest French speaking population in Western Canada and First Nation groups indigenous to Manitoba, the Ojibway, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene.

Folklorama is the largest and longest running multicultural festival of its kind in the world. Spanning two weeks each August, Folklorama showcases the food, song and dance of the area's ethnic communities.

The Aborgh Heritage Village is a working museum and interpretive centre showcasing the multicultural history of rural life and farm communities of the Interlake region prior to 1930.

Polar Bear Excursions
Churchill is the Polar Bear Capital of the World.
Churchill is connected with Winnipeg via railroad. There is no road out of Churhill. It has less than a thousand permanent residents and is booked a year in advance by tourists and scientists from all over the world. Long known as the polar bear capital of the world, it is also becoming recognized as the beluga whale capital of the world.

In the summer, thousands of beluga whales come to feed in the rivers emptying into the Hudson Bay. During October and November, hundreds of bears concentrate near Churchill, waiting to move onto the ice for the winter. It’s the largest polar bear concentration on earth. Visit Winnipeg
Winnipeg has many historic buildings, including splendid downtown banks, magnificent homes, majestic theatres and grand old railway stations. Prominent modern sites like The Forks Market, Riel Esplanade in St. Boniface and the brand new MTS Centre in the heart of downtown, are popular options for filming locations.

Scenic parks and rivers inside Winnipeg provide plenty of choice for shooting outdoor rural scenes right in the middle of the city. Outside Winnipeg, lakes and resort areas like the Whiteshell and Winnipeg Beach have often been featured as locations. Several rural towns within short driving distance of Winnipeg also offer period architecture, like Souris, Stonewall, Selkirk, Carmen, Morden, and Virden, all of which have been home to movie-making.
