Frank Stronach, born September 6, 1932 in Kleinsemmering, Austria as Franz Strohsack. He immigrated to Canada in 1954. He is married to Elfriede Sallmutter, and has two children. In 1999 Frank Stronach was made a member of the Order of Canada.

Frank left school at the age of 14 and started his training as an apprentice tool and die maker. In 1954, he emigrated to Montreal, Canada. In 1957, he started his first business, Multimatic Investments Ltd. in Toronto. In 1969, he merged with Magna Electronics and in 1973, the name was changed to Magna International Ltd. He developed his business into the major force it is today. Frank Stronach is involved in Thoroughbred horse racing and owns Magna Entertainment Corp., a horse-racing entertainment company that owns racetracks in the United States. His horses have won the Queen's Plate in 1994 and 1997, the Belmont Stakes in 1997, and the Preakness Stakes in 2000. Ghostzapper won the 2004 Breeders' Cup Classic, was voted Horse of the Year, and named the World's Top Ranked Horse for 2004. Frank Stronach himself won the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Breeder. His Adena Springs Farms owns horse breeding farms in Kentucky, Florida and Canada and won the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Breeder in 2004 and 2005. Frank also was active in politics, as is his daughter Belinda Stronach. His son Andrew Stronach is recognized as one of the keenest analysts of horse bloodlines. In 1986, Magna Europa was founded in Oberwaltersdorf, Austria. In 1998, Magna took over Steyr Daimler Puch. Frank is well known for his opposition to trade union representationand in the newly merged company Magna Steyr, he successfully prevented the establishment of works councils by reprimanding workers who were cooperating with unions. In 2004, a leisure center and the horse racing site Magna Racino were inaugurated at Ebreichsdorf. Stronach is also interested in football. He has been president and main sponsor of FK Austria Vienna and founded the Frank Stronach Football Academy in Hollabrunn which to this day continues to train and educate adolescent players.
