The Toronto International Film Festival

The Vancouver International Festival was started in 1982 and presently more than 150,000 people attend the 500 screenings of over 300 movies from more than 50 countries. It’s purpose is to encourage the understanding of other nations through the art of cinema, to foster the art of cinema, to facilitate the meeting in British Columbia of cinema professionals from around the world, and to stimulate the motion picture industry in British Columbia and Canada.
The World Film Festival in Montreal shows movies on giant outdoor screens. These moves, box office hits, classics of the seventh art and films that have graced the Festival's screens in the past, are shown beginning at 8:30 p.m. In 1983 Gilbert Rozon put together the people who liked to laugh with the people who made them laugh. The Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal was born. Now, 23 years later 0ver 700 artists perform in front of 2 million people every summer. The Festival's mandate is to spread the idea that humor, although presented in a similar fashion in content and form year after year, can be reinvented. It can stimulate its artists to provoke laughter in a daring manner that can and does go beyond the limits of the imagination.
