Education in Canada

In Canada, education is the responsibility of each province and territory. The system is organized into elementary and secondary schools. Elementary schools are from Kindergarden to grade 8. Secondary school is from grade 9 to grade 12.

Elementary and Secondary schools are publicly funded and administered by district school boards. Private schools do not receive funding from the government.

The Council of Ministers of Education represents the interests of the provinces and territories nationally and internationally. Through this council the ministers consults and cooperate with national organizations and the federal government.
