College and University Education

Post Secondary Education. Ontario has 19 publicly assisted Universities and more than 100 College campuses.

College programs are diploma programs, lasting two or three years, or one year certificate programs. Some courses lead to certification in skilled trades. Colleges also offer programs leading to a bachelor degree.

University programs offers undergraduate (bachelor) degrees and graduate (master's and doctorate) degrees. The university's degree-granting authority is based on its Act of the Legislature.

Students can combine programs to complete a degree in two subject areas. Some universities and colleges have joint programs that let students earn a university degree and a college diploma simultaneously.

You can apply for Post Secondary Education online. You may make up to five choices, but accept only one offer of admission.

Fees are usually paid in two installments, fall and spring. Total cost is for an average of two semesters (one year); it could be higher or lower. Nursing, engineering, medicine and law are usually higher.

Colleges Diploma or Certificate program: $1,820
University Degree programs $4,184
Ontario College of Art & Design: $4,180
Royal Military College: $1,524
International Students who want to further their Eeducation in Ontario should check directly with the institutions for details.
Transportation $100 a month if you are not within walking distance of your campus
Books and Student Supplies $1000 per year. Certain courses, architecture, medicine, dentistry and graphic arts, require additional funds for books, instruments, and supplies.
Ancillary Fees This is sort of a university overhead fee. It covers the cost of facilities (athletic), student government, and co-op placement.
Application Fees $ 85
Ontario Health Insurance: no fee. All students in Ontario are covered by OHIP.
Board and Lodging
In residence facility, room and board $4,500 to $6,000 or more per year.
Off campus: accommodation $4,500 - $6,000
utilities, telephone and food. $ 3000
Miscellaneous: entertainment, laundry, and personal needs are additional expenses.

Student loans and grants are available. Check with your university of choice.

To apply for admission to a College or University program, you must have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, or be at least 19 years old. Admission requirements vary from program to program, details will be in the course calendars of the College or University you wish to attend.
